JUST ONE WORD A DAY

3 Jul

I try to learn one word a day. Back in graduate school a professor suggested we read one-half hour in our native and another in the target language. Here’s a suggestion to help reach that goal.

PARALLEL TEXTS
I found this article on sexual abuse within the church:

http://ciperchile.cl/2012/06/29/investigacion-eclesiastica-contra-precht-reunio-una-veintena-de-testimonios-de-abusos-sexuales/.

Although difficult, we court interpreters find ourselves smack in the middle of situations such as these. Give this a glance and add to your list.

WHAT IS MY NEW WORD?
Today I learned a term for groping: manoseos. Now there’s a word that must be at the ready when the police ask you to interpret for a victim of sexual abuse.

Good words to you.
